About Bethpage Black

The week of May 13, 2019 is the US PGA Championship, 2nd of the four major of the year, at Farmingdale, Long Island, NY, in Bethpage National Park.

This park is the largest public golf complex in the country. More than 300,000 rounds of golf are played each year on the five courses.

The Black Course (called 'Black') is an incredibly challenging course with one of the highest slopes in the northeastern United States. Designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1936, it is considered the masterpiece of the architect. He was reworked by Rees Jones in preparation for the US Open 2002. With narrow fairways, long, well placed bunkers and narrow greens, this course is as beautiful as it is challenging. He is regularly ranked in the Golf Digest Top 100 (best 26th place), 6th most difficult course, and 5th largest (and 8th best) public golf.

In 2002, Bethpage Black became the first public course to host the US Open. He also hosted Barclays, FedexCup's first playoff.

It is one of 99 prestigious courses that can be played at Golf en Ville.

In the golf course on the PGA tour, The "Black" is like a bar exam, the toughest because of its rugged fairways, roughs and huge bunkers.

A sign at tee # 1 of the black course warns players:
"Warning - The Black is an extremely difficult course accessible only to very good players players. "
This means players from Tiger Woods or Lucas Glover, who won the US Open in 2002 and 2009. Tiger was the only one to play below the par on 72 holes ...

Golf en Ville makes it possible to play PGA Tour courses in real simulator conditions while watching the live events broadcast on its big screens.
